Life with Colt

I love being a Mommy! It has been so much fun these last 3 weeks having Colt in our lives! I can't describe how sweet it is holding him in my arms and realizing we created this little bundle of joy! Jake just can't get enough! He has been such a helpful Daddy! He loves to burp Colt after I feed him and is great at changing diapers too! He comes home for lunch everyday and can't wait to get his hands on him when he walks in the door. Our days include sleeping, eating and pooping :) We have gotten into a pretty good routine of eating every 3 hours. I am breast feeding and it is the most amazing thing how God created women! After Colt eats, he usually is awake for a little while and this is when he is the cutest! He'll just kick his legs and look all around. The nights haven't been too rough. I'll feed Colt at 10:00 and then swaddle him all up and put him in his crib. On a good night, the next feeding has been falling around 3:00 am and then rise and shine, 7:00 he's ready to eat again! The 3:00 feeding isn't too bad, but that 7:00 AM comes early! I keep saying I am going to stay awake after I feed him, but every morning Colt and I end up snuggling on the couch together until it's time to eat again at 10:00. No complaining here... my favorite time with my son :)

WELCOME TO THE WORLD COLT!

December 29, 2010 at 10:31 PM, Colt Ronald West joined the world! Weighing 6 lbs 13 oz and 20.5 in length. We are so blessed to be given such a precious, little healthy boy. We can't get enough of him and we both never thought we could love something so much! Child birth is truly the greatest, most amazing gift from God and we couldn't be more thankful for our little Colt joining us in this world!

Labor and Delivery

At 1:00 AM Wednesday, 29th I started having early Labor Contractions. They would come every 5-10 min and would last anywhere from 15-40 seconds each. They really weren't that painful and wouldn't last very long. Since they didn't go away, I had a feeling these were no longer Braxton hicks also because I had a cramp with the tightening of my stomach. As the hours past and the contractions continued, I had a feeling this was the real deal! About 4:00 I got a burst of energy to take a shower and get all ready to go to the hospital. I called the Dr. and told her I was in labor. She told me to come in at 9:15 and she would confirm I was in labor. Sure enough, I was having labor contractions consecutively 5 min exactly apart and I was at 3 cm and my water had semi broke the night before! Then she says, "Let's go to the hospital and have a Baby!" (I didn't have a gush of water like everyone described it to feel when your water breaks, but that is probably why the pain through each contr. wasn't that bad. I really just felt like I couldn't control my bladder through the night :)
Jake was at work waiting to hear from me the second my Mom and I left the Doctors office. We swung by the house to pickup our bags, picked up some lunch and headed to the hospital! It was really amazing how easy everything was going even though I was IN LABOR! We arrived at the hospital and Jake met us there! Right after we got situated in the room, Dr. Boren came in to check on me. She broke the rest of my water and told me I was about 4 cm. and would come back in about an hour. The next hour wasn't bad and all the West family arrived! Along with the West boys were my parents and then all the Allen's and our friends Ashley and Ryan Edwards. It was about 2-3:00 now and time for Dr. Boren to come back and check on me. Around 4:00 I was starting to feel the contractions, dilated to 4 cm and was asked if I was ready for the epidural, I said SURE! After the epidural I didn't feel any of the contractions at all! It was great! The epidural seemed to slow down my progress and Dr. Boren gave me pitocin to speed things up. At 7:00pm I was at 7 cm. Around 8:00 I started to feel the contractions. I asked for the pain medicine that would only last about an hour each dosage. After the first dose, it felt like the epidural felt again, Thank goodness! Around 9:15, I needed more pain medicine!! I was really feeling the contractions and on top of that, my temp was 103 and I had FEVER! Not fun during labor! Not really sure what brought on the Fever, but it was terrible! I was soooo cold my jaw was shivering! Next, they gave me antibiotics to get the fever down. Right away I felt sick to my stomach and had to vomit! Definitely not fun throwing up during contractions! The time when you are suppose to be the least tense, I was ralphing! Up came the antibiotics! After all the pushing from throwing up, I felt like Colt was almost here! Knowing the 2nd round of pain meds was going to be wearing off soon, I gave it my all! At 10:31 PM, we heard the first cry from Colt and it was the greatest sound in the whole world!
